The minority caucus in Parliament, led by Honorable Haruna Iddrisu, Member of
Parliament for Tamale South, spoke to the press today in response to the news that the e-levy had been enacted.
He believed that what happened in Parliament today was completely illegitimate and, as a result, rendered the bill null and void.
He was referring to the Supreme Court’s decision in the Justice Abdullai vs. Attorney General case.
In this regard, Haruna Iddrisu declared categorically that the minority will soon take the e-levy bill to the Supreme Court to dispute its passage.
This was due to the fact that the number of members in the house that passed the e-levy was less than the 137 required, implying that the house lacked a voting quorum.
He stated unequivocally that, while the entire minority opposed the e-levy, the NDC MPs on the committee also did not support it.
