Over the course of years, inflation in the transfer market and other unseen circumstances has seen the prices of players rise to the rooftops.

It’s been a few years now and little has changed, with most top leagues in Europe having a share of their most expensive signings on top footballers.

La Liga Santander, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 UberEats, Serie A and the English Premier League are also not left out of this huge spending spree on players in the transfer market.

As Manchester City officially announces Erling Haaland’s transfer to the club, here are the top 10 most expensive signings in Premier League history;

1. Jack Grealish to Manchester City

In the summer of last year,Pep Guardiola splashed a whooping sum of €117 million on Jack Grealish to get him signed for the Citizens.

The then Aston Villa forward was signed on the same day Lionel Messi became a free agent.

The English born forward still holds the record for the most expensive transfer in Premier League history.

2. Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea

After winning the Scudetto title with Inter Milan in the Serie A, Romelu Lukaku made a record transfer move to Chelsea FC.

The Belgian forward was signed for a mouthwatering sum of €115 million from Inter Milan in order to join Chelsea.

It has been a few months now and some football pundits still think the 28 year old striker is not worth his onion.

3. Paul Pogba to Manchester United

After letting Paul Pogba join Juventus from Manchester United academy, the Red Devils were later to re-sign him from the Italian side after the Frenchman won multiple league titles with Juventus.

Romelu Lukaku cost the Red Devils €85 million when he first placed pen on paper to sign a deal for them.

He was later to win a few domestic trophies with the club,and left his mark as the fifth big money signing in Premier League’s history.

6. Jadon Sancho to Manchester United

After a few years trying to sign the then Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho, Manchester United finally signed him last year for a reported €85 million fee.

The English born forward is sixth on the list of most expensive signings in the Premier League.

7. Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool

After selling Philippe Coutinho to FC Barcelona, Liverpool used part of the fees to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for a record sum of €84 million.

The Dutch defender will later go on to win the Champions League and Premier League with the Reds.

8. Kai Havertz to Chelsea

After a successful season at Bayer Leverkusen, Kai Havertz moved to Chelsea way back in 2020 for a sum of €84 million.

The 21 year old midfielder was later to score the goal which gave Chelsea the Champions League trophy against Manchester City.

The German youngster is eight on the list of big money signings in Premier League history.

9. Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal

As part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild at the Emirates a few seasons ago, Nicolas Pepe joined Arsenal from LOSC Lille for €80 million.

The right wing forward is also on our list of top most expensive signings in the Premier League.

10. Kepa Arizzabalaga to Chelsea

10th on our list of big money signings in the Premier League, Kepa joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid for a reported sum of €80 million.

While a lot of clubs were in this list, many people will be surprised not to see Manchester City’s new signing, Erling Braut Haaland on the list, with Manchester United players making the most of the majority.
