Vinicius Jr Named 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Young Player Of The Season

After six assists and four goals, including Real Madrid’s winner in the final, the 21-year-old Brazilian attracted the attention of UEFA’s Technical Observer panel this season.

Real Madrid’s Vincius Jnior has been named the UEFA Champions League Young Player of the Season for the season 2021/22.

In the 59th minute, the 21-year-old Brazilian winger finished a breakthrough season by scoring the game’s only goal against Liverpool in the Stade de France final, burying Federico Valverde’s cross-shot at the far post.

It was his fourth goal in the Champions League competition, and he also had six assists, second only to Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.

As the duo had a solid relationship, the majority of those assists set up goals for UEFA Champions League Player of the Season Karim Benzema in 2021/22.

While Benzema contributed force and predatory instincts, Vincius Jnior impressed with his pace, quick feet, and creative flair, which was best demonstrated by his stunning solo goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in the 5-0 group stage victory.

“The toughest thing in football is to score,” said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti after the final in Paris.

“You need to take your time, be cold-blooded, and that’s what Vinícius has done over the course of this season. Today, he put the cherry on top of a brilliant season.”
