Thousands of Senegalese head to the airport to welcome AFCON winners

Thousands of Senegalese headed to the airport to welcome the winners of the African Cup of Nations. Senegalese fans are still partying after their Lions won the African Cup of Nations for the first time. Fans of Senegal national team are overjoyed, as this is the first continental prize the country has ever won.

The Senegalese President declared Monday, February 7th as a national holiday. Citizens took advantage of the chance to gather at the Leopold Sedar Senghor airport to welcome their national team players.

It was a joyful moment, and the majority of citizens reacted positively to their first continental victory. According to a fan, the Senegalese are overjoyed because they have been waiting for the trophy for a long time. They are unable to express their emotions. 

Others have stated that it is a day they will never forget because it was their first ever victory. Their celebrations will continue on Tuesday, February 8, as the President of Senegal will receive the Lions at his palace. This is to honor the Senegalese footballers for their outstanding achievement and to encourage them to perform to the best of their abilities in order to honor their motherland.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane was named the AFCON Player of the Tournament. Mendy, the goalkeeper for Chelsea and Senegal, was also named the best  goalkeeper of the tournament. Both players are expected to return to England for the rest of the season.
