Thomas Partey, a Ghanaian midfielder, has taken the lead ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers’ final play-offs versus Nigeria later this month.
Partey turned in an outstanding performance for the Gunners in their 2-0 Premier League win over Leicester City on Sunday, just after earning Arsenal Player of the Month for the first time.
The 28-year-old scored the opening goal for Arsenal before Alexandre Lacazette sealed the victory with a penalty shot at the Emirates Stadium.
Partey is anticipated to be named in Ghana’s squad for the March 25 match against Nigeria and will take over as captain in the absence of skipper Andre Ayew, who is suspended.
The former Atletico Madrid midfielder has made 34 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring 12 goals.
The qualifier’s first leg will take place on March 25, with the second leg taking place on March 29 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The victor of the match will represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
