They Didn’t Give Me The Same Time As Xavi – Koeman Breaks Silence On Barcelona Exit

Ronald Koeman says he wasn’t given the same amount of time as Xavi Hernandez to succeed at Barcelona.

After a string of bad results, Koeman was fired by the club’s president, Joan Laporta, last October. Xavi came from Al-Sadd to take his place.

After he left Barcelona, the 58-year-old coach spoke to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. He gave his version of what happened in Barcelona.

But he says it is still too painful to consider going back to the stadium he once graced as a player

“You won’t see me at the Camp Nou for a while, I can’t do that yet. With this president I can’t pretend nothing happened.”

“They didn’t give me the time they have given to the new coach, Xavi,” Koeman stated.

After his time at the club, he was angry that he wasn’t given as much time as Xavi to make the team into a winner. He’s still a little confused about some of the mixed messages that he saw during and after his stay.

Koeman hasn’t taken on a new job since leaving Barcelona. He looks like he’s happy to enjoy a break from football for now.
