Senegal Declares National Holiday to Celebrate AFCON 2022 Victory

Congratulations to Senegal for lifting their first-ever AFCON trophy after a 4-2 victory on penalty shootout. There was a huge celebration as Senegal won the AFCON 2021 trophy on Sunday.

President Macky Sall of Senegal has announced Monday, February 7th as a national holiday. This is in honor of their first African Cup of Nations victory.

Following a 4-2 triumph in the penalty shootout, Liverpool and Senegal star Sadio Mane defeated Mohammed Salam. The two team ended the day with a goalless draw and headed on to penalty which took Senegal to the lead.

Senegal are finally the champions of AFCON 2021 after suffering a final defeat in 2002 and 2019. One Tuesday, the lions will be welcomed by the President of Senegal Sall at the President palace in Dakar.

“Following the Lions’ magnificent triumph, the president of the Republic of Senegal declared Monday a public holiday, a paid day off,” RTS reported, citing a presidential decree.
