Roma emerge as shock candidates to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is far from happy at Manchester United and his future still isn’t certain at Old Trafford ahead of the new season.

While Bayern Munich have denied their interest in the forward, it seems as though Jose Mourinho is pushing for a reunion with his compatriot, as he urges Roma to make an ambitious swoop.

That’s according to ex-Roma defender Fabio Petruzzi who apparently told Italian outlet Retesport of his former club’s interest in Ronaldo.

The veteran forward has one year left on his contract with Manchester United, but the team’s poor displays last season coupled with a slow start in the summer window have left the superstar furious.

He is still said to be part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and Ronaldo himself is content with the appointment of the former Ajax boss, yet that’s not to say that both parties are fully confident in each other.

That said, Mourinho and Ronaldo were hardly on the most amicable terms by the time the coach left Real Madrid, although they do share mutual professional respect.

Roma are enjoying life under Mourinho, and his conquest of the Europa Conference League has boosted his reputation after a tough few years with Manchester United and Tottenham.

Reaching an agreement is believed to be complicated for Roma, however, with Ronaldo’s wages at United impossible to match for the Serie A side.
