Following the untimely loss of former Real Madrid great Freddy Rincon, the football world has been in grief.
Rincon is said to have died days after being brought to the hospital following a tragic vehicle accident in his native Colombia.
The 55-year-old endured a three-hour operation after suffering significant head injuries in the crash, according to The Sun.
His condition was characterized as “critical” at the time, and he was sent to intensive care to ensure thorough monitoring.
Rincon, however, has been proclaimed dead just three days after being admitted to the hospital.
Laureano Quintero, the head medic at Imbanaco Clinic, where Rincon was undergoing treatment, confirmed the tragic news.
Quintero revealed soon before midnight that the retired player had died away.
“Despite all the efforts of our medical team, the patient Freddy Eusebio Rincon Valencia has died today April 13,” he said via The Sun.
“We deeply regret this outcome, and at the same time offer our most sincere condolences to relatives, friends, acquaintances and fans,” he added.
