Real Madrid’s 4 Captains For Next Season Revealed After Marcelo Exit

Real Madrid has wasted no time in selecting their four captains for the season ahead following Marcelo’s exit from the club.

The Brazil international left-back’s contract expires on June 30th, after which he will be a free agent. After 15 years of service with the Los Blancos, he has already been informed that he will not be offered a new contract.

Marcelo served as club captain for the 2021/22 season, although he will relinquish power when he leaves.

Karim Benzema is set to take over as captain, which should come as no surprise given that the France international has worn the armband often this season despite the fact that the Brazilian has been a peripheral player.

Two of his fellow deputy captains from the 2021/22 season are expected to help him out. Nacho Fernandez will take over as vice-captain, with Luka Modric following in his footsteps.

The four-man captaincy structure of Real Madrid, on the other hand, will remain in place. Dani Carvajal, the right-back, will be promoted to the captaincy group.

Except for the 2012/13 season, when he was at Bayer Leverkusen, the 30-year-old has spent almost his entire professional career at the club. He has 330 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring seven goals and assisting Vinicius Junior on the Champions League-winning cross in May.

Benzema will be the millennium’s sixth Real Madrid captain. The club was led into the 21st century by Manuel Sanchis. Following then, lots of new great people, beginning with Fernando Hierro, have taken on the job. Raul then took over for seven years before being replaced by Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos in the 2010s.

Marcelo only acted as the team’s captain for one season.

Benzema will succeed him, making him only the third foreign captain of Real Madrid in more than a century, with Mexican Jose Ramon Sauto serving as another from 1942 to 1944.
