Real Madrid Star Player Eden Hazard Backs Karim Benzema To Win The Ballon d’Or

Eden Hazard, an attacker for Real Madrid, believes that Karim Benzema will win the Ballon d’Or this year following a standout year. Last season, the captain of Los Blancos scored an astonishing 44 goals in just 46 games, surpassing 400 club goals in the process.

He stood out in the club’s Champions League run, during which Real improved their record by winning a 14th European Cup. In 12 UCL games, Benzema scored 15 goals, including hat-tricks against PSG and Chelsea in the semifinals.

This ought to be more than enough for Hazard, 34, to win the Ballon d’Or after nine nominations.

He told ESPN: “I think he deserves it. You know, there’s no doubt about it. But I think he deserves it not just for that season, but for his whole career, you know? It’s like he’s been at the top for 15 years.”

The former Chelsea man continued: “Maybe he’s scoring more goals, which is why people just want him to win this Ballon d’Or, but I think he deserved it before, like five years ago.

“He’s our captain now and he’s also, like, a really good guy, you know? He’s not talking that much on the pitch, doing what he wants. He’s our leader. So, we just pushed him to go for the Ballon d’Or.”

Benzema is the favourite to take home football’s most coveted individual accolade, but he does face competition from Mo Salah after he shared the Premier League golden boot and came close to a quadruple, and Sadio Mane after his triumph at the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.
