Mbappe’s spectacular goal in stoppage time gives PSG the advantage over Real Madrid. Real Madrid would have been lucky to escape the Parc des Princes with a goalless draw in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 encounter with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, but Kylian Mbappe’s stoppage-time winner handed the hosts a deserved 1-0 victory.
Mbappe appeared to cause serious damage to the team he’ll most likely be playing for next season from the final minute. When he had the ball, he drove at Real Madrid’s backline, and he was involved in the game’s opening chance, which was put over by Angel Di Maria.
Mbappe was PSG’s major attacking threat even with Lionel Messi on the field. He seems intent on proving something to Real Madrid, PSG, and the rest of the crowd at the Parc des Princes.
Dani Carvajal was a victim of Mbappe’s brilliance, as the Spaniard gave a penalty that he had no concerns about after being easily beaten by the Frenchman. Messi, on the other hand, saw his penalty saved by Courtois, who was the only player on the pitch who came close to matching Mbappe’s level.
Just as it appeared like Real Madrid would escape Paris with an undeserved draw, Mbappe produced a brilliant moment to win it for PSG.
Finding himself on the left side of the box, Mbappe imitated Ronaldo Nazario by dribbling between two defenders before opening up his body in the style of Thierry Henry to finish through Courtois’ legs with the game’s final kick.
PSG will travel to Madrid with a one-goal lead on March 9 for the second leg. Real Madrid, on the other hand, can take comfort in the knowing that there will be no away goals.
