Hansi Flick, Germany’s national team coach, has expressed his enthusiasm for Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Rudiger’s efforts with Chelsea. Since Tuchel took over as manager at Stamford Bridge to replace Frank Lampard, the two have developed an excellent working relationship.
In just over a year in charge, Tuchel has led the Blues to their second Champions League trophy, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. As a result, Flick has praised his fellow countryman’s efforts in west London.
Speaking in a press conference, the former Bayern Munich head coach said: “I have to say that Thomas Tuchel is doing an excellent job at Chelsea.”
Tuchel has a lengthy list of admirers, including Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also said to be big followers of him.
The Red Devils were reportedly eyeing him for their soon-to-be managerial post, despite uncertainties about his future following the club’s takeover.
However, it now appears that he will not be considered for a move to Old Trafford, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag being the frontrunners.
Antonio Rudiger is another Chelsea player who has been linked with a move to United. The German defender’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he may join United on a free transfer.
While it is unclear where Rudiger’s future rests, it is apparent that Flick admires him, despite the fact that he was benched for die Mannschaft’s 2-0 triumph over Israel on Saturday.
He continued: “I’m happy we have such a player in our team. He’s the fastest player in the Premier League. It’s always good to have that kind of speed. We don’t need to discuss his quality as a defender. It’s important that he continues this development and helps the team.”
The Red Devils are said to be up against stiff competition in their pursuit of Rudiger, with Juventus and Real Madrid also apparently interested.
