Real Madrid beat Real Mallorca 3-0 at Son Moix on Monday night, with Vinicius Junior scoring the game’s first goal and Karim Benzema adding a brace.
Despite dominating the ball from the start, Real Mallorca sat deep in the first half hour, with Real Madrid trying to break behind the hosts’ strong defense.
Luis Garcia’s team, in fact, created the first clear opportunity of the game in the first half. Angel Rodriguez’s strike from within the box was blocked by Nacho Fernandez, but the rebound dropped to Pablo Maffeo, who hit the woodwork.
Real Madrid played a great game after the half, pressing high up the pitch in an attempt to break Mallorca’s defensive structure. They caused problems for the hosts’ defense, and Vinicius took advantage of an Iddrisu Baba error outside the box to open the score.
With 12 minutes remaining, the Brazilian forward was very active for Los Blancos, winning a penalty that was converted by the French striker.
Benzema scored his 8th goal in five games, heading home a ball into the area from Marcelo, who had just replaced Ferland Mendy from the bench.
Mallorca had a couple of chances in stoppage time in the second half to bring one back, but Kang-in Lee and Vedat Muriqi both missed.
The bad news for Carlo Ancelotti is that Benzema, Mendy, and Rodgyro Goes all went off the pitch after picking up knocks just days before the Clasico against Barcelona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.
Real Madrid leads the league by ten points over Sevilla in second place, while Mallorca is 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone.
