Mali 0-1 Tunisia: Mali Suffer Embarrassing Home Defeat In World Cup Play-offs Against Tunisia

Mali defender Moussa Sissako was sent off after conceding an own goal in a 0-1 loss to Tunisia in Bamako, and the country now has little hope of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time.

On 36 minutes, Sissako sent the ball toward his own goal under pressure from Seifeddine Jaziri, unaware that goalkeeper Ibrahim Mounkoro had gone off his line, and the ball dropped into the net.

Sissako was sent off shortly after for a last-defender foul on Jaziri, and despite having the better second-half chances, Mali was unable to convert any of them into goals.

Mali gave Abdoulaye Doucoure, an Everton midfielder born in France, his first cap. He had intended to play for his birth country before agreeing to represent his parents’ homeland.
