Juventus 1-1 Torino: Andrea Belotti Nets Equaliser As Juventus Drop Points

Juventus have worsened their chances of dropping out on Champions League qualification after a 1-1 draw in the Turin derby, allowing Atalanta to seize fourth place from them.

Although the mid-season purchase of Dusan Vlahovic was cited as a serious example of the Bianconeri’s aim to return to the top of Italian football fast, Massimiliano Allegri has had a difficult season.

Torino arrived at the Juventus Stadium in a comfortable mid-table position, but they were able to hold off Juventus’ greater firepower in the first half.

Matthijs de Ligt’s header was perfectly placed on a corner delivered into the penalty area, and the Dutch defender headed home from close range, just inside the right-hand post.

In reality, that was the best Juventus could hope for. Despite their early domination, it was their local rivals who improved as the game progressed. It’s not easy to have 58 percent possession of the ball at Juventus Stadium, but Torino did it, as well as registering more shots than their opponents.

Torino could have equalized much sooner than they did, with Rolando Mandragora’s long-range attempt stopped by Wojciech Szczesny’s outstretched hand.

Andrea Belotti eventually equalized for Torino with a wonderful low shot into the middle of the net, however credit must go to Josip Brekalo for the excellent assist with a ball into the penalty area.

Juventus fans will be disappointed with the total lack of chances they generated, but both teams may have a bitter taste in their mouths as the visitors appeared to lose key defender Bremer to injury in the 88th minute.

Atalanta are now only three points behind Juventus in fourth place, but they have two critical games in hand, which might become crucial with Juventus losing control of the position for the time being.
