Jurgen Klopp Tells Liverpool Star What He Needs To Do Beat Benzema To 2022 Ballon d’Or

Jurgen Klopp has told Sadio Mane how he can beat Karim Benzema to win the Ballon d’Or in 2022, despite the Real Madrid forward being the favourite.

That is according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has discussed Mane’s task if he is to win the prestigious award for the first time.

The Senegalese forward is one of the frontrunners for the prestigious individual award, and he increased his chances of winning it with a goal in midweek.

Mane scored the second goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, giving him a total of 20 goals in all competitions this season.

In 2019, the 30-year-old finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or, with Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and PSG’s Lionel Messi vying for first place. Twelve of the last thirteen awards have been shared by the two men.

However, with both teams having had difficult seasons by their own high standards, it appears that the trophy will be handed out in October under a different name.

Liverpool’s best player, Mane, and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who has 41 goals in 41 appearances this season, are among the favorites.

Klopp feels the Ballon d’Or could be decided by whether or not his team wins the Champions League next month.

In an interview, the Reds manager mentioned that: “It was like this, that if you are not Messi or Ronaldo you have to win probably the Champions League, which we didn’t do yet so give us a few more weeks and then we will see where we end up. Sadio wants to contribute, Sadio wants to help the team and that’s what I love most of all.”

Team-mate Mohamed Salah is also in the mix, having finished seventh in 2021. While Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and PSG whizz kid Kylian Mbappe are also high up in the betting.
