Former Real Madrid player Michael Essien was embarrassed by his teammates on his 30th birthday during his loan tenure at Real Madrid in the 2012/13 season.
The Ghanaian midfielder decided to hold a birthday celebration and invited all of his teammates to attend. However, only Luka Modric and Ricardo Carvalho showed up for him, leaving Essiem humiliated.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema, and Sergio Ramos were all on the Real Madrid team at the time, yet nobody showed up for his party.
“He stated it was a political club consisting of fighting factions and offered me a scenario to illustrate the point brilliantly,” Rob Beasley writes in his book “Jose Mourinho: Up Close and Personal.”
“It was Real midfielder Michael Essien’s 30th birthday party, and the Chelsea loanee had invited all of his Madrid teammates.” Only a few people showed up, leaving Mourinho to calm his frustrated player.
“He informed Essien there was nothing personal; it wasn’t even that his teammates didn’t like him, and it wasn’t because they didn’t have anything better to do, unhappily.” It was simply because they were more interested in themselves than in others, according to Mourinho.
