How Man United Could Help Chelsea Sign Jules Kounde As Barcelona Seek To Fix £8.4m Problem

Frenkie de Jong’s interest in joining Manchester United has Barcelona looking for alternatives, and the Dutchman’s unwillingness to clear his debts and move to Old Trafford has given Chelsea the upper hand in the race to recruit Sevilla star Jules Kounde. The financially strapped Catalan club owes De Jong money, and it is believed that their inability to come to an agreement on the player’s unpaid salary is what is impeding Kounde’s projected transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Barcelona is making every effort to sink the deal, despite the fact that Chelsea and Sevilla apparently reached an agreement on a price in excess of £50 million for the center-back. The Blaugrana are rumored to have spoken with Kounde directly and urged the defender to put off making a decision about his future so they could balance the club’s accounts and position themselves to make a counteroffer.

But before they can buy, the La Liga heavyweights must sell, which is where De Jong comes in. The midfielder is unwilling to depart and is also demanding payment of a sizable sum in previously withheld earnings.

The Independent claims that Barcelona has once more told De Jong that the club “needs” him to go this summer since his continued refusal is preventing them from making any other transfers, including the signing of Kounde. The 25-year-old is reportedly owed a postponed wage of almost £14.4 million by the Spanish team.

Barcelona is rumored to have tried to start a resolution by putting forward a compromising offer for De Jong to settle these debts and compel his departure to United in a deal that would cost more than £70 million. The club’s offer, it is said, fell more than £8.4 million short of what the Netherlands international is owed.

Barcelona is thought to be reluctant to pursue Kounde’s signing until the problem is rectified or the club’s books can be balanced with the aid of other sales. De Jong’s pay situation and his expected transfer to United are at a standstill, which only helps Chelsea’s pursuit of the Sevilla center-back.

Although Kounde is believed to be eager to join Tuchel’s team, Barcelona is where he would love to end up. The main factor keeping the Catalan club’s hopes of signing him alive and driving them to expedite their efforts to sell in order to fund a deal is his wish to move to the Nou Camp over Stamford Bridge.

If Barcelona is able to make a bid for Sevilla, it is anticipated that it will be lower than the one that Chelsea is currently putting forth. The Blues are also said to have made a deal with Kounde on a personal level, but they are still waiting for the Frenchman’s formal approval.
