Wesley Fofana to Chelsea, here we go! Documents are almost ready as Leicester and Chelsea reached an agreement on the fee on Friday, confirmed.
Fofana will sign until June 2028 as new Chelsea player. Fee around £75m [add-ons included]. Time to prepare documents now.
Wesley Fofana’s move from Leicester City to Chelsea is happening, according to a tweet by Fabrizio Romano. David Ornstein corroborated the story, with the Foxes’ ‘unbelievable’ defender likely completing a move before their trip to Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
All About the Wesley Fofana Deal
The Stamford Bridge outfit committed to their final bid in the afternoon, with Leicester City accepting the offer within a matter of hours. The specific fee is unknown, but French journalist Fabrice Hawkins notes that the deal is “a record sum”. This, in combination with the fact that Brendan Rodgers was hoping for a fee in the region of £80 million (a transfer record for a defender), indicates that the agreement is above this mark.
What Role Did Fofana Play?
Wesley Fofana was an integral part of the move.
His desire to complete the transfer was obvious, with Brendan Rodgers saying: “I mentioned in the week about coming into a Premier League game and maybe one or two players not being in the right frame of mind, you can’t carry them and certainly we can’t”.
The French centre-back’s agitation for the move clearly played a part in the transfer, as the King Power outfit couldn’t make any use of someone who didn’t want to stay.
