Furious Atletico Madrid Fans Remove Thibaut Courtois Plaque After Real Madrid Heroics

Thibaut Courtois’ plaque at the Wanda Metropolitano was removed on Monday, just three days after the Belgian goalkeeper said in the run-up to the Champions League final that he was now on the right side of history, referring to the final that Atlético Madrid lost to Real Madrid in Lisbon when he was a player.

On Monday, Enrique Cerezo, the president of Atletico Madrid, responded to some Atletico fans’ wish to remove Courtois’ honor plate by saying:

“If you want to remove Courtois’ plaque, go with an axe and shovel and remove it,” Cerezo said.

The Belgian goalkeeper’s plaque on the Wanda Metropolitano’s legends walkway was removed hours afterwards.
