Ecuador could miss out on a fourth World Cup appearance when the 2022 tournament in Qatar begins in November, as FIFA is considering removing the South American country due to allegations of cheating.
Chile had submitted a protest with FIFA alleging that Ecuador defender Byron Castillo is a Colombian by birth and hence unable to play for his country.
They believes Ecuador defender Byron Castillo altered his birth documents in order to play for La Tri in the World Cup qualifiers, according to the Daily Mail.
Chile also claims to have proof that Castillo was born in Tumaco, Colombia, in 1995, rather than General Villamil Playas, Ecuador, as his official documents claim.
FIFA has already begun an investigation into Chile’s charges, and if they are found guilty, Ecuador might be kicked out of the 2022 World Cup.
