Gianluigi Donnarumma has beaten Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to be awarded the best keeper in the European football. Donnarumma has faced a rapid rise to prominence in these recent years.
Donnarumma joined PSG during the summer and managed to play a key role in the Euro 2020 for his country. He happens to be the second man to win the Yashin trophy after Alisson, Liverpool’s keeper.
The 22-year-old played in all 7 matches in the European Championship which include the finals. During the finals, he saved two solid penalties to beat England in a dramatic shoutout.
He made it to the final shortlist for the Ballon d’Or and earn majority vote. This is after he recorded 15 clean sheet in 48 matches across all competition.
Chelsea best keeper Edouard Mendy lost out the award to Donnarumma despite his outstanding performance in the English football. Mendy recorded 16 clean sheet in 31 Premier league competition and 9 in the Champions league for Chelsea.
