Chelsea Suffers Double Injury Ahead Of Carabao Cup Final Against Liverpool

Chelsea has been struck a double injury blow ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley against Liverpool.

Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech were both substituted in Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Lille in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 encounter. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will now have to wait to see if they will be fit to face Liverpool.

‘I should have substituted Kovacic earlier at half-time so that I might have had one more change,’ he remarked.

I didn’t observe Hakim’s injuries, and I didn’t speak with the doctor about it. I hope it isn’t too much, but it is a small part of the season’s tale (with injuries).

‘Today is Tuesday, and it’s good till Sunday because we have a lot of days to recover, so we’ll take care of it.’

In the 51st minute, Kovacic limped out and was replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Ziyech was forced to leave the game around the hour mark due to an ankle injury.

‘We don’t like having that many injuries, and we’d want to have more effect from the bench in a tactical sense, but it is what it is,’ Tuchel continued.
