Romelu Lukaku is reportedly on the way back to Italy’s Serie A if reports from that country are to be believed.
The 29-year-old Belgian has been underwhelming since rejoining Chelsea from Inter Milan for a mammoth club-record fee of £98m last year.
He managed to bag just eight goals in the Premier League, a far cry from his prolific stay with the Nerazzurri.
According to the Daily Mail UK, Lukaku is in for a loan move back to Inter.
Quoting the La Gazzetta dello Sport, the article stated that Lukaku would earn £6.4m-a-year in wages, lower than the £10.2m plus £2.5m in add-ons he earns with Chelsea – a definite drop of £3.8m.
He is said to be looking for regular game time with the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year in mind for what might be Belgium’s “Golden Generation’s” last realistic shot at international honours.
The Mirror recently reported that Lukaku parted ways with his agent Federico Pastorello a few days ago ahead of the proposed loan move.
