Chelsea May Snub Rice Move And Sign Conor Gallagher Instead

Chelsea may decide not to sign Declan Rice next summer and instead elevate Conor Gallagher to the first team, according to reports. For a long period, the Blues have been associated with West Ham striker Rice, who previously attended Chelsea’s academy.

Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard, are so happy with Gallagher’s improvement on loan at Crystal Palace that they may no longer want Rice.

Gallagher has put in a strong showing for Palace, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 21 Premier League games. He joined Chelsea at the age of eight and went through the ranks of the academy, but has yet to play in a competitive first-team game for the club.

Gallagher has been loaned out four times, with periods at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City, and West Bromwich Albion preceding his time at Palace. The 22 years old still has time to improve, and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is eager to work with him.

Tuchel has a number of options in midfield, including Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Meanwhile, Saul Niguez might return to Atletico Madrid at the end of his loan, while Ross Barkley could go on a permanent basis.
