Following Antonio Rudiger’s departure and Andreas Christensen’s likely departure, manager Thomas Tuchel’s team is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.
Chelsea are reportedly getting close to signing Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in a £40 million deal. The Dutch center back would be the Blues’ first defensive acquisition of the summer, according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.
After excelling with the Cherries, Ake, 27, left AFC Bournemouth in 2020 and signed for Pep Guardiola’s City for £40.7 million.
Ake, a former Chelsea academy trainee, made 17 appearances for the Stamford Bridge team in 2012 after making the transition to the senior team. The Dutchman, however, spent the majority of his time with the Blues on loan at Reading, Watford, and Bournemouth.
