The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has released a press release regarding the SIM registration deadline extension.
As of March 17, 2022, the SIM registration exercise, which began on October 1, 2021 and is scheduled to end on March 31, 2022, had 14,091,542 SIM cards linked to the National Identification Card, also known as the Ghana card.
According to the ministry, over 7.5 million citizens and residents are yet to acquire Ghana cards, which would allow them to register their SIM cards, causing the deadline for completing the registration of the remaining active SIM cards to be delayed.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation, updating the SIM Registration App for diplomat registration will take more time, while a Self-Service SIM Registration App is being developed to make SIM card registration easier for Ghanaians residing abroad.
By the mid of April, the application will be functional. As a result, the ministry has extended the deadline for registering SIM cards until July 31, 2022.
