The day has finally come for Black Stars of Ghana to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a World Cup play-off at Baba Yara Sport Stadium in Kumasi.
In today’s game, Ghana and Nigeria’s coaches are expected to field a solid squad. Following the Black Stars’ final training session at the host stadium yesterday, a list of players who could start the game has been compiled.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori is expected to start at the back of the net. Despite missing out on the chance to keep the goal for Ghana’s Black Stars owing to injury, he is expected to start ahead of competitors such as Joseph Wallocot, Lawrence Ati Zigi, and Manaf Nurudeen.
Goalkeeper Joseph Wallocot has had recent opportunities to play for Ghana, particularly at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Dennis Odoi and Gideon Mensah are competing for the right and left back positions, respectively. The duo’s job is to run the lines and control the edges. Alexander Djiku and Daniel Amartey will keep an eye on the opposition attackers in central defense.
Despite the team’s early exit from this year’s Afcon, Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku emerged as fan favorites.
Midfielders Baba Iddrisu, Thomas Partey, and Kudus Mohammed will be in charge. Baba Iddrisu is expected to start as a holding midfielder, while the other two will play as a box-to-box and central midfielder, respectively.
They’ll have to unite together in critical moments to protect the entire defense. Also, Thomas Partey and Kudus Mohammed will have to go above and beyond to ensure that plenty of good opportunities for the primary striker to score are created.
They have a difficult task ahead of them in keeping an eye on things and getting the team going.
On the wings, Joseph Paintsil and Jordan Ayew are tasked with exploiting their speed to the point where they outrun their opponents and score goals. As wingers, they may open up and broaden the field, as well as score when the opportunity arises.
As the arrow head, Afena Gyan appears in the likely line-up. His main responsibility is to turn opportunities into goals so that the team can achieve its goals.
He is regarded as a player who holds the necessary qualities to lead the team to victory. He bears the burden of the goal-setting responsibility.
