Jose Mourinho’s Roma side suffered another defeat at the hands of Bodo/Glimt, putting their Europa Conference League ambitions in doubt.
The Italians were blasted 6-1 by the Norwegians in the group stage and faced another difficult night in the opening leg of the quarter-final.
Late in the first half, Lorenzo Pellegrini’s goal appeared to have put the visitors on the road to victory.
The hosts, however, won thanks to goals from Ulrik Saltnes and Hugo Vetlesen.
Rui Patricio, a former Wolves goalkeeper, was to blame for the first goal, letting Saltnes’ effort spin past him when he could have saved it.
That humbling setback in October marked a low moment in Mourinho’s managerial career, since it was the first time one of his sides conceded six goals in his 1,008th game as a manager.
If Bodo/Glimt can repeat their 2-2 draw from the group stage in Rome in November in the second leg, they will go to their first European semi-final.
