According to former Bayern Munich great Ze Roberto, Cristiano Ronaldo, may be approaching the end of his illustrious career. The 47-year-old Brazilian admitted that life hasn’t been as easy as he had thought for someone as passionate about winning as Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has endured a terrible couple of seasons with Juventus and Manchester United, which may push him to retire shortly.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ze Roberto said:
“Cristiano is, for me, a machine. But I don’t think he will still be going at 40 because he is a player who has always played at the highest level, always winning trophies and always trying to be the best player in the world. But in the last two years, we have seen he has not been able to do that with Juventus and now with Manchester United.”
“The best proof of that is that he hasn’t been among the top two or three players for the big individual prizes. He is still a player who costs a lot, but as someone who is used to competing at such a high level, there will come a time when he decides it is better to stop rather than look for something that won’t be the same,” he added.
It’s worth mentioning that Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United expires in 2022-23. That is not to say, though, that the 37-year-old forward will remain at the club for another campaign.
According to rumours, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner may depart the club next season if they miss out on qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United are currently in the Premier League’s top four. Arsenal, on the other hand, are currently only two points behind United with three games remaining.
