Barcelona 1-0 Sevilla: Pedri’s Masterclass Lifts Barca To Second Place In La Liga

Barcelona continued their winning streak by defeating Sevilla 1-0 at the Nou Camp on Sunday night to move into second position in LaLiga.

After his team’s 4-0 triumph away at Real Madrid just before the international break, Xavi Hernandez would have loved for Pedri to score the sole goal in a game that Barcelona generally dominated.

Sergio Busquets had an early scare in the game when he collided with teammate Gerard Pique, leaving the midfielder prone on the ground, but he was able to return to the pitch after a few minutes.

Early on, Barcelona were in command, but a rare Sevilla raid resulted in Anthony Martial attempting to deliver a cross into the box, which hit Ronald Araujo’s arm, though the referee chose not to award a penalty since the Uruguayan’s arm was by his side.

Gerard Pique’s long-range drive deflected off Jules Kounde, forcing Bono to run over his line to make a stop, and the Barcelona centre-header back from the resulting corner came back off the bar.

Then, in the 71st minute, Barcelona scored their first goal. On the edge of the box, Pedri shimmied away from a slew of Sevilla players before firing a low shot towards goal that nestled in the bottom left corner.

Barcelona appeared to have a chance to extend their lead in the second half, but Sevilla stood firm and attempted to keep the game close.

Despite the fact that Pique was issued a yellow card despite being the last man, the Sevilla players were frustrated because they lacked the clinical edge required to earn a point in this game.
