Substitution in football means a player comes off and he’s replaced by another one.
We have some players who defiled this and here we look at them;
1. ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
At AC Milan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scor d a semi-overhead spectacular goal against Fiorentina and got injured while celebrating the goal.
Maximiliano Allegro wanted to substitute him off but Zlatan turned down the decision and continued to play.
2. CARLOS TEVEZ
Tevez saw his shirt number being raised on the sideline signalling him to come off.
However, he waved that he didn’t want to come off and I don’t n gave in to reactions from the bench.
3. LUKAS FABIANSKI
He was injured after collision with Vincent Janssen during Tottenham vs Swansea match. The board was raised for him to be substituted but he made it clear he was staying on the pitch.
4. LIONEL MESSI
Messi had already scored one of the three Barcelona goals against Eibar and Luis Enrique attempted to withdraw him from the field.
Messi then gestured that he wanted to continue playing and the two engaged in a war of hand-waving.
5. CRISTIANO RONALDO
Bayern Munich were leading 2-1 against Real Madrid hence keeping both sides level on aggregate.
Zinedine Zidane thought of replacing Ronaldo with Asensio but Ronaldo refused and scored two goals later.
6. KEPA ARRIZABALAGHA
It was during the Carabao cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City which saw Kepa Arrizabalagha refuse to be substituted after suffering a knock, leading to anger and disbelief for everyone watching.
