6 Most Influential Players That Played For Both Inter Milan and AC Milan

The rivalry between AC Milan and Inter Milan dates back to the early 1900s. Despite their fierce rivalry, certain Inter Milan and AC Milan players were able to play for both clubs.

Cross-city rivals tend to avoid doing business with each other. In spite of this, the two northern Italian teams have swapped players who had either a few appearances or a long career with the other side.

In no particular other, the following is a list of former AC Milan and Inter Milan players.

  • Alberto Aquilani

Injuries dogged Aquilani since he was brought in to replace the then departing Xabi Alonso, so he was not a name that many Liverpool fans will recall. While his loan term at the San Siro wasn’t effective enough to gain him a permanent move from the Reds, he was able to keep himself in the worldwide spotlight throughout that time.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Before Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sold to Barcelona in 2009, Inter Milan had Zlatan Ibrahimovic as their star player. AC Milan loaned him out to Pep Guardiola in 2010/11, and he signed a permanent contract with the club a year later. In 2019, he rejoined AC Milan.

  • Clarence Seedorf

Clarence Seedorf, the formal Milan coach, was formerly an Interista. After Inter won the Coppa Italia in 2002, Seedorf was traded for Francesco Coco. Since then, Seedorf was a constant in Carlo Ancelotti’s 4-3-2-1 Christmas tree formation, where he plays as an attacking midfielder just behind the point-man.

  • Mario Balotelli

Brendan Rodgers’ departure from Liverpool was partly due to Mario Balotelli’s lack of goalscoring prowess in the 2014-15 season. A Milan loan in the 2015-16 season wasn’t enough to get him into Antonio Conte’s Euro 2016 squad although he had been prolific for 18 months in the previous two seasons, while he was still a Milan player.

The career of Nigerian Taribo West has been an interesting one. He has played in the top divisions of Italy and Germany, as well as for Al-Arabi and Plymouth Argyle.
