5 Top Footballers Who Played For Highest Number Of Clubs

It’s impossible for a professional footballer to resist the various opportunities that present themselves during the course of their career. There are those who will put them on the front pages of celebrity publications, and then there are those that may send them out to play somewhere else, and this isn’t always for the love of the jersey.

Players who have never been hesitant to switch teams during their career are highlighted in this list of the top five.

  • Christian Vieri- 12 Clubs

As a forward, Cristian Vieri was an excellent scorer and a fantastic center forward with exceptional offensive talents such as positioning, finishing, and a keen feel of when to strike the opponent.

In order to secure an Italian, clubs were typically willing to part with a large sum of money. In 23 appearances for Juventus, Vieri netted eight goals.   • Marcus Bent – 14 clubs

It was the first time a player from both teams scored a hat-trick in the same game in the Premier League when Wigan’s striker netted three goals against Blackburn in the 2007-08 season. Bent played for 13 different clubs in England and one in Indonesia during his career, but his three-year stay at his first club was the longest of any of those.

It was in 2017 when Bent came out of retirement to play for Wick, a non-league team, but he didn’t play a minute of it before the club was declared bankrupt two years later.

  • Rivaldo – 15 Clubs

Though most people associate him with FC Barcelona, where he played for five seasons and won the 2002 Ballon d’Or, the Brazilian is one of only three players in the world to have represented clubs on four continents and in as many confederations (UEFA, CONMEBOL, CAF and AFC).

While there are a total of 15 clubs welcoming him, one of them is from Uzbekistan and the other is from Angola.

  • Luca Toni – 15 Clubs

The 1.93-meter-tall Italian striker has had a long and successful career. With the 2004-2005 season, he scored 31 goals in Palermo. Then he moved on to Fiorentina, where he scored 71 goals in two seasons while earning the Viola 15 penalty points for match-fixing.

Miroslav Klose was his offensive partner for three seasons at Bayern Munich. Luca Toni has played for 15 different clubs throughout his career, including 13 in Italy.

  • John Burridge – 29 clubs

The 70-year-old English Football League goalkeeper has appeared for the most teams (18) in league history (the erstwhile English top tier before the introduction of the Premier League) Ex-Blackpool and Sheffield United midfielder Burridge recently spoke about the unique experience of playing for a number of teams.

It’s improbable that any of the other players on this list will be able to match or surpass Burridge’s record of playing for as many clubs as the Englishman did.
