Manchester City, who used to be in the shadows of their rivals, has risen to become a world-class team in the last decade.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure and the injection of Arab money into Manchester have converted the club into one of the most well-known and successful in recent years.

Here are the top five players that have played for both Manchester City and Manchester United.

1. Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez was a key player at the Old Trafford under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, winning the Premier League and the Champions League in his debut season.

2. Peter Schmeichel

According to Man United fans, Peter Schmeichel’s move to Man City was considered the biggest betrayal in their history. Gary Neville was furious when Schmeichel’s move to City was announced in 2002.

The Danish was pivotal for the Red Devils’ victorious journey in the 1990s and the fact that the Old Trafford side were unable to replace him with a goalkeeper of similar quality for a long period of time, hurt the fans.

3. Andy Cole

In January 1995, Andy Cole joined Manchester United from Newcastle United, and his goal-scoring form improved tremendously, hitting the back of the net 12 times in 18 matches in the league in his first half-season at the club.

4. Owen Hargreaves

In 2007, Manchester United signed Owen Hargreaves for a fee around £17 million. Under Ferguson, his role was clearly defined and was played on the right.

Hargreaves played 34 matches for Man Utd across all competitions as the club won the Premier League and the Champions League.

But due to consistent injuries at the theatre of dreams, Hargreaves made just five appearances in his final three campaigns. In 2011, Man City completed a deal for the Englishman.
