The Premier League’s relentless schedule may be extremely taxing for players, and it can have a significant impact on their performances, resulting in a wide range of results.
Some athletes, on the other hand, manage to overcome the pressures of a busy schedule and perform to their full potential until the season’s end. Some of these players put up great performances in April 2022.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Premier League’s five most in-form players right now.
- Ivan Toney
Ivan Toney is the leading scorer with 12 goals for the promoted Brentford club in the Premier League. If all competitions are taken into account, he has scored 14 goals. He has five assists in total, four of which came in the EPL.
With 29 EPL appearances under his belt, he has an average of 0.42 goals and 0.14 assists per 90 minutes played.
Toney’s most memorable performance so far this season has been a hat-trick against Norwich in a 3-1 away win. With 33 goals last season, he was the EFL’s (second-division league, following the EPL) leading goal scorer.
- Christian Eriksen
Brentford offered Christian Eriksen a six-month contract in January 2022 after Inter Milan terminated him due to the cardioverter defilbrator they put inside him.
Eriksen has only appeared in seven Premier League games, scoring one goal and assisting on two occasions. In a 4-1 away triumph over Chelsea, he scored in the 54th minute, giving them their first win over the Blues since 1939.
Eriksen’s assists came against Burnley and Watford, respectively. The latter was a spectacular strike that occurred in the 95th minute from a free-kick that Pontus Janson headed clean into the goal.
- Son Heung-min
Heung-min With 17 goals, Son is tied for second place in the EPL scoring race with Cristiano Ronaldo. Son has averaged 0.59 goals and 0.21 assists per 90 minutes in 30 EPL games. He has seven assists in the EPL.
Son’s goal-scoring campaign began in the season’s first game, when his goal was the lone difference between his team and Manchester City. Son scored his last goal as part of a hat-trick against Aston Villa.
He and Harry Kane broke the EPL record for most goal combinations in February. The previous record was held by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.
- Bruno Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes moved to Newcastle United from Lyon for £40 million during the January transfer window. Since then, the defensive midfielder has had four goals and an assist in 13 Premier League games.
With those goals, Guimaraes was instrumental in keeping Newcastle United out of the relegation zone. Guimaraes’ first goal was a memorable one, as he scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute against Southampton.
He would not score a goal until a month later, when he broke the jinx by scoring two goals in a well-deserved 2–1 victory over Leicester. A header in the 95th minute was the game-winner.
- Kevin De Bruyne
In 26 games this season, Kevin De Bruyne has been involved in 17 goals. From a total of 44 shots, he has 11 goals, six assists, and 24 shots on target. This season, he created 71 chances, including 11 huge ones.
De Bruyne also has 33 aerial duels and 57 tackles to his credit. His first goal came in a 2–2 draw with Liverpool, when he struck the equaliser in the 81st minute to keep the Reds from taking all three points. He had gone three games without scoring a goal before the meeting.
He also scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute against Chelsea, completing a home-and-away victory over Chelsea. In his last four games, the Belgian has been directly involved, scoring two goals and registering three assists.
