Every player faces some competition that they find it extremely tough to perform against. The players listed below, however, have little care for the opposition they will face and have gone out to give their all for the teams they have played for.
Here are the top five players who have scored against the majority of Premier League opponents:
- Jermain Defoe(35 teams)
Defoe has played for Sunderland, West Ham United, and Portsmouth. When he scored a goal for Sunderland against Hull City on November 20, 2016, he became the eighth player in Premier League history to reach 150 goals.
His record versus Wigan Athletic is particularly noteworthy. He scored five goals in a single game against them in 2009, when Spurs trounced them 9-1. He then scored eight goals against Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United.
- Wayne Rooney (35 teams)
Rooney’s 200 goals was 17 for Everton and 183 for Manchester United, and he has scored against 35 different teams.
Newcastle United was his favorite team. Against them, Rooney scored a whopping 14 goals. Then there’s Aston Villa, who he scored 13 goals against. His finest Premier League season was 2011/12, when he netted 27 goals for Manchester United.
- Alan Shearer (37 teams)
The striker has 260 Premier League goals, making him one of England’s best. This does not include the 23 goals he scored prior to the 1992 season, when the Premier League was formed. He had a 14-year career in which he made 441 appearances and scored against 37 different teams.
His favorite opponent was Leeds United. In 19 games versus them, he scored a total of 20 goals. Everton was his next opponent, against whom he scored 16 times in 22 games.
- Andy Cole (38 teams)
Andy Cole is a five-time Premier League winner, two-time FA Cup winner, and a member of Manchester United’s 1999 treble-winning team. He even won the Golden Boot when playing for Newcastle United in the 1993/94 season. In that season, the Magpies finished third.
Out of the 38 teams he scored against, Liverpool, West Ham United, Southampton, and Newcastle United were his favorites, with 11 goals each. Coventry City and Ipswich Town were his next two opponents, against whom he scored ten goals apiece.
- Frank Lampard (39 teams)
Frank Lampard, a Chelsea icon and one of the best midfielders of his generation, scored against 39 different Premier League teams. Three Premier League titles have been won during his career. He was also a member of the Chelsea team that won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 2012, defeating Bayern Munich.
Lampard had a preference for scoring against Aston Villa, with 13 goals to his name, followed by Bolton, with 12 goals.
