Chelsea are about to enter a new era. Following Roman Abramovich’s sale of the club, new owners are likely to take charge. The club’s supporters have great aspirations for whoever takes leadership.
To win back fans, the new owners must invest heavily in the summer transfer window. Thomas Tuchel requires reinforcements in several areas, with the Romelu Lukaku scenario set to attract the most attention this summer.
Lukaku has upset the club and its fans since his controversial interview a few months back. The Belgian striker expressed regret over his departure from Inter Milan while also noting that Tuchel’s method did not suit him.
He has only 12 goals in 34 games, which is woefully inadequate for a player who cost nearly £100 million. Due to his dubious attitude and failure to adapt into Tuchel’s system, the club may attempt to replace him. Here are a few suggestions.
- Patrik Schick
If Chelsea are searching for a similar left-footed, powerful striker to replace Lukaku, Patrik Schick is a plausible alternative. Despite scoring the tournament-winning goal at Euro 2020 last year, the 26-year-old went unsigned last summer.
Schick is currently enjoying his best season with Bayer Leverkusen, having scored 20 goals in 20 Bundesliga matches. This is more than double the nine league goals he scored the previous season.
Schick is a clinical goal scorer with lightning-fast reflexes and a prolific counter-attacker. The 6’3″ attacker possesses an exceptional ability to head the ball and is physically strong enough to withstand the Premier League’s rigors.
He is rated at €40 million (by Transfermarkt) and might be an excellent acquisition for Chelsea. Schick is still in his prime and has established himself as a Bundesliga goal scorer this season.
- Darwin Nuez
Darwin Nuez might be a wild card in Chelsea’s striker quest. The forward is gaining popularity among Europe’s elite as a result of his achievements for Benfica.
Nuez has 26 goals in 33 appearances for Benfica this season. Even more noteworthy are his four goals in eight Champions League games. The 22-year-old scored the game-winning goal in Benfica’s 1-0 Round of 16 triumph over Ajax, advancing the Portuguese side to the quarterfinals.
The Uruguayan attacker is a force to be reckoned with at the age of 22. His strong points, according to WhoScored, include finishing, dribbling, long-range shooting ability, and important passes. The youngster is capable of playing as a center forward or on either wing.
He is a dynamic, versatile striker with a great deal of promise. Nuez, who is only 22 years old, still has many years ahead of him and is the type of diligent, efficient player Tuchel prefers.
According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, Benfica will demand €80 million for Nuez (via Teamtalk). Chelsea’s new owners may be willing to accept the risk of investing significant money to replace Lukaku next season after seeing his big-game performances and consistency this season.
- Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland is expected to be the most desired player on the transfer market this year. The Norwegian appears to be on the verge of leaving Borussia Dortmund in search of a move to a European superpower.
The capability and quality of Haaland are unquestionable. He has 23 goals in as many appearances for Dortmund this season. He has 80 goals and 21 assists in 80 appearances with the Bundesliga team. He is a goal-scoring juggernaut.
The crux of the matter is his asking price. Bild (via ManagingMadrid) reports that the overall cost of signing Haaland – fee, salary, add-ons, and agent fees – could exceed €350 million over several years. That is absurd money.
However, if the new Chelsea owners wish to demonstrate their ability to spend on a par with Roman Abramovich, they will gladly accept this challenge. Tuchel has the ability to convince him to join, and if he does, Haaland will be able to assist Chelsea in their pursuit of Premier League and Champions League trophies for many years to come.
