Nobody should expect Chelsea, Newcastle, or even the absurdly named Arsenal to approach Real Madrid about signing the former Premier League star from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Hazard will go to any length to ensure his success at Real Madrid. It’s vital for him to regain his self-assurance.
Recent efforts, whether for Real Madrid against Cadiz or for the Belgian national team in the UEFA Nations League, show that he is regaining confidence in his body.
However, what will Hazard’s role be in this attack? We’ll look at three ways he can fill in as a backup for Real Madrid in specific situations.
1. Number 10 position
As we’ve seen with Real Madrid in the past, this is a tactic that Ancelotti frequently uses. That might lead to a modern 10 like Florian Wirtz or the flexible Christopher Nkunku playing for Real Madrid in the future.
Hazard may be able to fill Isco’s void in the short term, however. At this point in his career, the 10 may be Hazard’s best position, even if he plays on the left wing. Consider this a possibility, but don’t rule it out just yet!
2. False 9
In the 2021/22 season, Real Madrid used Eden Hazard as a false nine. However, even though it isn’t ideal, it’s possible for the Belgian attacker to play in this position.
I believe Real Madrid will resist making a substantial investment in a back-up striker this summer despite Carlo Ancelotti’s stated desire.
Because Erling Haaland has a two-year release clause, they would like to sign someone who can develop behind Karim Benzema or wait until the end of that time period to make a decision.
Latasa and Mayoral are both free and talented alternatives for this position; Ancelotti may also play Hazard as a false nine.
3. Backup Left Wing
I think Carlo will avoid the “Free Role” option on the right. Because Hazard rarely stays on the right wing, it destabilizes the team.
On the left wing, minutes are needed for Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, but Vini is the lock to start as one of the best players in the world and unquestionably one of the two best at the position.
Hazard, on the other hand, should continue to see action, whether it’s as a starter or a sub.
There are only so many chances Hazard has at his favored position, therefore he may have to settle for the occasional return to the starting line-up at No. 10 in some circumstances in the 2021/22 season. However, we’ll have to wait and see.
