America’s entertainment industry, Hollywood, has many black celebrities of African descent, specifically Nigerians.
Here is a list of Nigerians who were either born in Nigeria and grew up overseas, or were born and raised outside the country, or they have one or both parents as Nigerians.
1. Martins Imhangbe
Martins Isoken Imhangbe is a 30-year-old British-American actor.
Known for his work in biopics and period films, he is currently starring as Will Mondrich in Bridgerton, an American historical-romance streaming television series, for which he received a nomination for the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Imhangbe is from Edo State in Nigeria.
2. Sophie Okonedo
Sophie Okonedo is a 53-year-old British-American actress and singer, who has starred in both successful British and American productions.
Eighteen years ago, Sophie rose to international fame for her compellingly outstanding acting role as Tatiana Rusesabagina, the wife of Rwandan hotel manager, Paul Rusesabagina, in the critically acclaimed American genocide drama film, Hotel Rwanda, for which she received both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
A winner of Black Reel Award and Hollywood Film Festival Award, she is currently playing Kiera in an upcoming American comedy-drama film, Raymond and Ray.
Born and raised in London, England, Sophie is originally from Edo State, Southern Nigeria.
3. Mark Holden
Mark Adrian Holden-Aikhomu is an American actor.
Initially known for playing tough guys with a tender heart, he went on to achieve success with more complex and challenging roles.
He gained recognition with his stellar roles as Officer Willow in the 2002 American drama thriller film, Bang Bang You’re Dead, and as co-pilot in the 2000 American supernatural horror film, Final Destination.
Holden is an Esan from Edo State in Nigeria.
