The Ghana Education Service has started discussing with the West African Examination Council(WAEC) to let student pen the West African Certificate Examination (which was formally written in May/June) in September/October 2021.
The Ghana Education Service also wants the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) to be written in November 2021.
Professor Kwasi Opoku Mintah assures us that these dates would help the candidates prepare very well to write the exams.
He said they expect the exams to be written in September/October and they have started talks with WAEC .
The Director-general of the Ghana Education Service went on to state that in drawing up the all year calendar, they took into considerations the period that the candidate would stay home till the period they would start writing exams would be about 1,701 hours per their calculations.
He further went on insisting that the appropriate dates writing the WASSCE and BECE examination are September/October and November respectively.
He added that they need to make provision for the marking of the exams script and also the releasing of the results so if they decide on October/November, it would be very difficult for WAEC to release the WASSCE result which the university heads would use to admit students in January.
They have suggested that September/October should be the period the WASSCE should be written. This is because when they use September/October, the GES GES would have covered 1,700 hours and will be short of one hour contact period only which they can always make up for.
Would the discussion made by the GES help the candidates to obtain a better grade?
