UPSA-UTAG Reverses Decision To Return To Class On Monday

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) chapter of the Ghanaian University Teachers’ Association (UTAG) has withdrawn its decision to resume classes on Monday, February 21.

UPSA-UTAG maintains that, being members of the national body, any decision made by the UTAG National Executive Council (NEC) is binding on UPSA lecturers as well. This is in response to a previous letter indicating that lecturers would resume active teaching on Monday.

This instruction came in response to the Labor Division of the Accra High Court’s injunction against UTAG’s strike. UTAG is obligated to halt its strike and return to the negotiating table under the terms of the injunction.

The UTAG NEC, on the other hand, has stated that the strike will continue unabated until it consults with its legal staff on a course of action. As a result, UPSA-UTAG has said that it will wait until the UTAG’s National Executive Committee decides on the interlocutory injunction.

“UTAG-UPSA, therefore, calls on members to exercise maximum restraints by remaining calm as we await the decision of the NEC of UTAG,” it concluded.
